fuel pump

Hi,
Removed the fuel pump today(air in the system-changed the hand priming one,a fuel hose cracked...).However,I noticed that the sping inside of the pump (Bosch FP/K 22 M7,used on w110,115 200 &220D`s)was much weaker than the one in my spare pump( FP/K 22 M7 again)and at some point it`d been rebuilt.Seemed to work allright(to me,at least). How strong should the damn spring be???Should I put it back or use the spare(stronger) one?Any possible danger to the injection pump shaft?
This car is full of unpleasant surprises
Thanks a lot!
