Hollowed out cat 99 turbodiesel

Well I have been thinking for some time on how to do this since there is quite a bit of pipe before and after the cat to successfully hollow it out without putting in a straight pipe. My 87 was easy, I just took it apart and gutted it from the rear opening in the pipe.

So I took the front pipe off and used my makita cutting disc to cut a panel out in the side of the cat. I then gutted it quite easily and welded the panel back on.

It has made a noticeable difference in power. I bet the egts are down although I do not have any gauges on my 99 to give any numbers.

I also have the aggressive chip from speed tuning which is probably taking advantage of the modification.

I think it may be time for a G-Tech pro run. Before the modification I ran a 7.72s 0-60 with no power braking and the aggressive chip.

Now if I or someone can just come up for something for the egr...

My elsbett system is working great. I live in Maryland and diesels are exempt from emissions.

As long as you realize that even though your car isn't tested, it is still against the law to remove or hollow out the cats. Something like a $2500 fine.

Which is cleaner, running vegetable oil and no cat or dino and a cat? Is there something removed with a cat that does not matter what oil is burned?

Newer diesels have NOx cats. I don't know what date they started putting them on though.

Oh please.... The most they would make you do is put it back on. Besides, he hollowed it out, its still there, just non-functional. Even if it was inspected it is highly unlikely the chimps running the joint would figure it out. There is a long, long list of automotive laws that was broken and ignored every day.
Blue headlight bulbs (rice burners)
Window tint (some states)
ANY aftermarket cold air intake (breaks Federal intake noise reduction laws)
Bumper heights on lifted trucks (some states)
Louder that stock exhaust (some states)
etc.
etc.
etc.

It is almost an imperceptable difference. It might be a tad louder at idle if you stand at the back of the car. But there really is no difference even at wide open throttle. I was quite surprised and delighted myself.
