Harbor Frieght tools has diesel compression tester on sale for $16
I could not resist buying one of these yesterday. I opened and it has a release valve for the pressure on the gauge. Nice set. Don't know about how much of a quality set it is, but WOW! It was only $16 bucks this week on sale at Harbor Freight tools. Picked up mine locally so no shipping!

How do you use one of those, do you attach it to the glow-plug hole then crank the engine/look at the gauge? (cold and warm engine)?

Depending on the engine you use either the glowplug hole or injector hole. Depending which adapter will work. My car uses the glowplug hold.
You test warm. Crank 3 or 4 times over and take reading. Without starting of course. Danny

A few more questions. What is the easiest and cleanest way of keeping the engine from starting? Remove all glow plus? As for the engine being warm... I dought I can test all five cylinders at the same warm temperature. Isn't a cold test more uniform? |
