I'm being told my injection pump is bad and needs to be rebuilt. Car is running bad (missing, not burning fuel well) and after it heats up the idle takes off, to 2200 when not in gear. Also have some kind of knocking in one of the cylinders. Burned veggie last summer while it was warm, but went back to diesel in cold weather. If bad, is the only pump that will fit, the same yr or will a range of yrs fit? mine is an 84 300d turbo, I've seen an 83 and an 85.

Taking off on it's own from idle to 2200 rpm does sound like you have a problem with the governor. On the rest of it, just be sure you have good injectors, the IP is timed, valves adjusted, etc. I'm sure another forum member will be able to tell you what year IP's will fit your engine.

84 300 D Turbo, the IP's from the following years should work.

1979-1985 300SD
1982-1985 300D,CD
1981-1985 300TD

There was a change in the 85 CA pumps so I'm not 100% that they will work.
