Mobil 1 Extended Performance

Does anyone have any opinions as to whether Mobil 1 EXTENDED PERFORMANCE really offers anything beyond regular Mobil 1? For what it's worth, here's Mobil's official answer:

What is the difference between Mobil 1® Extended Performance and Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with a boosted level of protection and performance. Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with the Advanced SuperSyn System, contains 50 percent more SuperSyn than Mobil 1. (Updated March 2006)

No desire to start another big hairy oil thread....but hadn't seen this particular question addressed when I searched.

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the Extended Performance oil but I would think the soot levels would be much too high with that much of a service interval.

Maybe the difference is an additive that has shown to prevent varnish build-up.

Mobil 1 extended is mostly for gas engines.

I don't think any oil can provide that long a service life reliably it's all a matter of what the oil filter can contain.
with gas engines there is much lower compression, so lower amounts of debris get into the oil. that is my opinion.
I am sure this oil is better, but ya better be changing the filters in between.

Before I sold my 300D, I used it. I only ran it 8k though, with a filter change in between. I am not that stupid! To add to that, when I use mobil 1, I only run it 5k. In any engine!

Seems like marketing hype, same stuff different bottle.

AFAIK Mobil 1
0w40
15w50
5w40

Have not changed, these are the only ones that we should be running in a MB so who cares about the other stuff.

0w40 meets the latest MB 229.1 specs and is diesel rated; thats what is spec for the CDI's.

Oils are getting better and better all the time. However I would not want to be the guinea pig.
