10mm 12 point shock nut

I'm installing Bilstein HDs on my '83 MB 300D.

The rear is done.

The front is giving me some trouble. The bottom inside 10mm 12 point nut is difficult to get any socket or wrench to turn it. There appears to be very little room between the edge of the nut and the shock.

What have other people done to get this nut back in its place?

pull down on the upper part of the shock, and pull it toward you wedge it in the fender, this should give more room on the one on the inside, insert the rod in the hole to acess the outer blot

i think

he has the right idea but to elaborate a bit, take the top of the shock loose and swing it away from the nut you want to loosten on the bottom. remove that nut and then swing it the other way to do the other bolt.

i use a 1/2" drive 10mm on an extender to do this job.

don't forget you have a steering wheel! Use it to turn the wheel outta of your way as much as possible. I had to grind down a boxed end wrench to get mine off.

Yepper, take the wheel off for sure! Then turn the hub to your advantage, that helps too!

get some 1/4 drive sockets, they are thin and fit places other stuff can not.
