is this a good deal or a bad one?
I have an option to purchase a 83 300d for 1800 with 250000 miles on the car, the body looks great but it has a lot of miles on it, i have extra parts from another mercedes i have, is this a good price for that many miles?

I don't know if i can swap out parts from a 300sd from the same year into it or not if anything goes because i have all of the parts in my garage... 2 5 cyl engines with turbos, 1 tranny, other parts, so i don't know if i should buy this car or look for another, i'm worried about the chassis rusting and not being able to drive it

it all
depends on conditin.
it could be worth more or less. if it looks good and it is mechanically sound it should be worth that even if it has maybe one major issue such as ac work. the other systems should be very good though. good smooth running engine, good shifting tranny and no significant rust with a decent interior. the engine tranny and rear end should interchange. a lot of other parts wont, though so if wanting max interchange you should keep in the same body family. good luck. |
$1800. is a fair price for a vehicle with 250K provided that it is in reasonably good condition and has been maintained somewhat over the years.
If it's the typical W123 with no maintenance whatsoever, then $1800. is way too much to pay. In fact, $0 would be too much to pay........because of all the time and money you'll be dumping into it. |
well supposedly he maintains it heavily but it has a oil leak which he is going to fix before i buy it, and the miles are a lil over 220000. so the interior parts aren't interchangable?
|
there are surely some
but the big parts are all different.
switches and gearshifts and steering wheels prob are all the same but door panels and dash panels and seats are all different i believe. the front seats may be usable but i am not sure about it. the sd has the power seat with switch in the door tom w |
82Benzo,
Where is the oil leak? If its the rear crankshaft seal, engine must be R&R to fix it. But if its a turbo drain leak, its not too hard to fix. Make sure the leak is fixed properly. P E H |
i have no idea where the leak is, the guy sold it to the mechanic and i'm buying it from the mechanic, my dad bought cars from him before and he seems really honest with all of his work. i just lost my 82 300sd to a huge rust problem + the two oil lines bursting which killed the engine so i'm just looking for something that will run for at least 3 yrs

I always like service records. Before you think about that one you should look at mine. I've got complete records, except for the A/C rebuild and all new switches.
Mines no beauty but has been serviced to mercedes silver star standards. |

If the interior is nice and there is no rust or exterior damage, then $1,800 is about as much as I would want to pay for a 23 yr old car with 250K on it. Maybe you could get him down to 1,500 after a second opinion..... ANy photos??? |
well he said that the problem will be fixed before buying it
