Swapping engine into 88 560 sel

I was thinking about putting my 82 300sd engine into my dads 560 sel. Hes willing to sell it to me and the body is clean (just painted and no rust whatsoever) as well as the interior. The gas engine is still strong, but its at 198k miles and sooner or later it might start presenting problems. I was thinking of driving the 560 as is while I pull the engine from my sd, which is still strong compared to the rusting body and sad interior, and completley rebuilding it over the coming summer. Id love to have my diesel engine in the bit more modern 126 chassis with all the little extra bells and whistles and clean look (without having an SDL). With the mileage my dad cant sell the car for very much and I figure my car (apart from the engine) is degrading terribly to the point that it would cost me much more to fully restore my car. On top of which I dont think I could afford the fuel for a v8 merc gasser, especially in the coming years. The only thing I am concerned about are compatibility issues.

What are your guys thoughts?

200k on an M117 isn't that much really, the bottom end is fine... the heads need to be redone around that time. If you're going to do the heads, pop the front cover for the lower guides and new gaskets. Few thousand into it, and it'll be like new.

If you're hell bent on a 617 powered LWB, find a non-runner with a busted up topend like my 420. But that's getting a 560 transplant by the end of the month. I plan to pick up the motor later this week or the first of next (depends on when that Easter deal is).

Don't forget 93 has been cheaper than No 2 until about two weeks ago at the latest.

Just my 2¢

I know diesel has been more expensive until recently, but I plan to start making my own biodiesel. At one point in college I was making my own and my car ran great, but since ive moved to jersey i havent had the space. Thats my primary reason for eventually putting a diesel into the LWB.

I still wouldn't do it to a perfectly running 560.

Seems like a waste of a perfectly good M117.
