Need Good Indi to install Control arm bushings
I need a good Mechanic to install a set of lower control arm bushings on my 97 E300 D. I have the parts, I just don't want to get involved with a coil spring compressor or press.
Somewhere in the New York New Jersey area. |
And the question is whether this Indy mechanic will install customer provided parts. In my experience, most will not.
They have a hard enough time making money under the assumption that they mark up parts at least 40%. There may also be a liability issue. They install your parts. The parts are defective. You crash. Who is liable. Good luck, Steve |
There is also the issue of those bushings not wanting to come out. I think Lightman said when they tried to do his they broke the tool. So often the complete comtrol arms are replaced to avoid dealing with the bushings.

Well none of this is very in couraging. At any rate I'm going to need new bushing very soon, and if anyone has any recommendations I'm willing to listen. Any idea what kind of tool was used? I assumed that they would just be pressed out and pressed in on the bench. I wonder what the dealer would hit you for the job.

Don't know whether driving to Harrisburg, PA is an option, but Bavarian has installed parts I supplied for my 300SD without complaint. I would had gotten used to getting work done by a good, but very unreliable mechanic, at his own garage - but it looks like it is back to Bavarian for me. They work from the book, but do a good job.
