'80 300SD - $500, Is it worth it???

It runs pretty good from what the owner said.
I dont know a lot about the car. I think it has about 250k miles, and has a little rust. Interior seems to be clean. Im going to look at the car tonight, see if I can pick it up. So hopefully some of you will be able to respond before the next couple hours! I know I didnt provide a lot of info, but its all I have.

Thanks

Daniel

Welcome to the forum.

If you don't have to tow it.......it's worth $500.

Even for parts...

...it's probably worth that if you can say it looks "OK."

Wow $500, Where do you all find these cars so cheap!? I have about the price of a Kia Rio into mine so far when combining "restoration and repairs" + the purchase price.

grab it...you will pay more than that for a running motor at some wrecking yards.

... or used Kia Rio. That could either represent a whole lot of money (if new) or not too much (used).

Red face Update!

well, I found out some more info. It runs, but its a little rough to start. She said that you have to rev the engine a little sometimes to keep it running at start-up. Once its warmed up its fine. I have no clue about these engines/cars so I cant even begin to guess what the issue is.

Also, the car has 255k miles. I know thats noting for these cars as long as it was maintaned. (right?) I dont know anything about the maintenance history.

The body is pretty straight. Just a few little things here and there.

The interior needs a little work she said, but with the pictures I saw, it looked pretty clean for a 26 year old car. The back seat pading is flat according to the current owner. Im not to worried about that since I will never have anyone back there.

So thats all the info I have for now.

Oh, the pink slip is the issue right now. Should be here by mid next week. I will let you all know what happens either way.

With that said, any input you can offer would be great! Thanks for the replies already.

Take care!

Daniel

Buy it as soon as the title shows up. Keep quiet to avoid having it snatched out from under you.

It seems we have a consensus: buy the car.

I bet the rough start is not going to be a bad fix. Fuel filter, maybe?

Even if the engine has compression issues you will likely get your money's worth and then some. You could probably recoup most if not all of the $500 by parting it out, if nothing else, but if it runs now it will probably keep running for quite a while.

Good luck!
