Brake reservior leaking... mysterious discharge
My brake fluid reservior is leaking between the plastic reservior and the metal part of the brake booster thing...
Looks like there are a couple rubber grommets that connect the two... Can I just replace those and go on my way, or is it more complex than that...? The mysterious discharge: My wagon doesn't usually leak a drop of fluid onto the ground. Today I was letting the wagon warm up after pulling out of the carport. After about 5 minutes i noticed a pancake sized puddle of fluid near the front driver side of the car, and a line of fluid extending to either side where the radiator fan had slung it... It was dirty looking brake fluid.... I checked both front brake lines.. they didn't seem to be leaking.. It looked like there was some leaking around the fluid reservior as described above, but not a lot... The fan had slung fluid all over the front of the motor, so I could not pinpoint the leak? I think the brake fluid was a little high in the reservior before the leak... after the leak the reservior read right at the max line... Any ideas how brake fluid could get to the front of the engine compartment? Last edited by djdluck; 04-20-2006 at 08:57 PM. |

Your sure it was brake fluid? I can't think of a way that brake fluid could make it to the front of the engine compartment like that....seems impossible...

Yes it does. The reservoir is to the right (starboard) of the radiator and one of the lines might do as described if leaking. |

yes, and it pretty much looks exactly like brake fluid. but it wont smell like it and it wont take off the paint, luck for him!
i would look for a loose hose and if that doesnt solve it perhaps the pump needs rebuilding. also i suppose the res might be cracked. tom w

Wups I didn't even notice it was a wagon. Darn..... I can't loose my edge....especially since I've taken up residence on the site while I sit here at my job (IT dept) at school with nothing to do.....
