Remember the song by Queen "I'm in Love with My Car"? Well, that's me and my W123. I do not like it when people drive around with loud music in their cars "sharing" it with the rest of the work, but once in a while I would like to turn up that song and take Margaret out for a very brisk drive on a winding road.

Spring is here and the summer driving ahead. What is wrong with getting a persons car ready for it? Actual dollar cost is probably below a car payment as well. Or on a fairly new vehicle less than a months depreciation. The installation labour is yours. That saves a bundle in itself. Helps with pride of ownership issues too. As someone said in your thread much better than self destructive pastimes and I totally agree with that. Really pretty smart move. A lot better than taking a fairly new car into a dealership for an oil change and mandatory check. Then being presented with a perhaps somewhat questionable bill for 500.00 or more. With even things changed out like the pollen filter for 75.00 when in my area it is as good as new but change frequency recommended by the manufacturer dictates it. Mind that there are no allergic individuals using the car. Dealer follows lockstep of course in self interest. And air cleaner filter is changed out while still 90% good when you checked it yourself a few weeks prior. Who is getting the value for money here? Not me. But my door hinges are lubed.Maybe.

When you're young is the best time to do that, as you actually have $ to blow. (I'm guessing you're you since you list mom & dad's car in sig) Get the car right before all that spare $ is accounted for somewhere else.

Thumbs up

I just had to shell out $300 for a radiator for the SD. Too bad an SDL one won't fit, I have an extra for that one.

But I had a blowout last week in the SD, oil seal to turbocharger take a crap on me on the freeway, and the radiator Not my week. Now the speedo stopped adding miles too.

Good news, picking up 111K mi M117 + 722 for around $250 out the door.

Get used to it. I've got a big check coming in next week and am eyeing those stainless brake lines and cross drilled rotors that I have been looking at for the old SDL.

Super pointless but they would look sick.

I've spent all of my earnings for almost an entire month's worth of work on my car in the past 2-3 weeks.... And there's still more to be bought!

Heck No!

2 engine mounts $63.00

2 engine shocks $96.04

Breather Hose $3.76

Manifold gasket $16.82

2 Engine shock mount kits $44.26

Misc. Oil & filter, fuel filters & stuff $50.00 or so.

Then I can get started on my sunbaked interior, will probably just replace the driver seat... Anybody in SF bay area with parts 123 with decent driver's seat?

The list can just go on and on and on...

But hey, it's a labor ( and expense ) of love
