Mobil 1 5W-40 available soon

Found this on another forum, thought I'd share it with you. Looks like May 15th is the big day.

It had better be cheap, otherwise I'm migrating to Amsoil. Mobil pisses me off with their availability boondoggles.

Wow they bumped the rating up to. I guess MB plans on brining more diesels to this market and wants an oil that can handle more soot then the 0w40.

AFAIk it never had the 229.51 rating before, I'll have to check the gallon I have sitting in my garage.

You sure? You saw the 5W-40 turbodiesel oil, not the 5W-30 Truck and SUV oil right?

screw em, I switched to rotella and my engine seems to like it, and its less than half the price... I'm putting the money toward NAPA gold filters instead.

Hello, Hello. :-)

As far as I can tell there is no Mobil 1 5W-40 229.51 oil available yet in the USA.

In Europe Mobil sells a thinner Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 229.51 version only. Some specs are on the server:

I've just come to realize that this new oil is different than the Mobil 1 5W-40 turbodiesel oil we've been waiting for. This oil is a "special" type. I quote this from the "other" forum
Quote:
The new Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 is a new oil and not yet available anywhere as far as I can tell. It's a "longlife low SAPS oil", low in sulfated ash and phosphorus and also with low vapor pressure so it wont pollute the exhaust particle filter. It extends the oil service interval to 20,000 km / 12,500 mi. It complies with the new MB oil recommendation 229.51 which should be printed on the can so one can differentiate it.
So, I'm guessing this new oil is geared more towards the CDI and new Bluetec crowd.

Exactly. Mobil calls it a "Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 - Emission System Protection" oil on the spec sheet above.

I'm running non-synthetic Mobil Delvac 5w40... Since MB articles 229.3 and 229.5 are the suitable oils for our cars, I looked in those lists but did not find Delvac listed there... That's strange... Maybe I should switch, but I don't really know what to pick. I've been recommended Shell Rotella, but it's not on MB 229.3 or 229.5 lists either.

I like the Lubro Moly products, but it looks like not a single Lubro Moly oil that's available in US is suitable for MB 229.3 or 229.5, strangely enough. The only online place I saw that sells Lubro Moly oil conforming to those MB articles is a place in Canada, and it would be rather expensive to buy from, especially due to shipping.

What about the Lubro Moly MoS2 10W40 Super motor oil? I like it because of the MoS2 lubricant that people say does a good job quieting down the engine. Perhaps it's a bit viscous. There's the new Lubro Moly Volsynthese Energy high tech motor oil 0w40, which claims to provide immediate oil delivery even during cold weather start conditions, and it certainly costs the most. It has MB 229.1 approval, but again not quite 229.3 or 229.5.

Seems like Lubro Moly is the German favorite... What are your thoughts on Lubro Moly - anyone here uses their oils in their MB diesels right now?

I wouldn`t put it in a PC diesel, although it has the ACEA A3/B3 approval. Isn`t it one of those nasty low Sulph.ash/low phosphorus and sulphur oils???
Better find an ACEA E7/E5/B4/B3,API CI-4 oil...
