suspension questions 85300sd

OK, I fianlly got the truck back on the road, so now I am back to this project.
There are a lot of issues, but I need to start with the rear suspension.

Here is what the issue is. When driving, the car does not corner really well. And when i push done the car it seems to go down a lot more than any other car I have never owned (this is my first MB) but bigger than that is that when I get the rest of the family in the car, it draggs on the road, this is an uphill, graveled road, but it sounds like I am going to tear this thing apart.

Where do I begin? I do not know what the ride height should be, but to me the rear looks low. And also seems to move a lot.

What is "normal" for the feel and where do I begin?
Finding a few posts in search, but I am not sure that springs are the 1st place to go.

thanks
Doug

A vehicle of that age will generally need the following:

1) shocks
2) differential mount
3) subframe bushings

If things are really bad, then the following are also needed.......but........the work involved is a major step up:

4) trailing arm bushings.

If the above won't cure the performance/ride height issue, then you could consider springs, but, I have my doubts that you'll need them on an SD.

Are these pretty straight forward?
Shocks, I think I can do.
Diff mount, is that right on the diff towards the rear of the car?
Sub Frame bushings... Ok, got me here, where are those. I do not think that they are the bushings holding the body on.

Is this all stuff that I can learn to do?

thanks

Yep, the shocks are not difficult. I've got to put a full set in the SD this week.

Diff mount is all of 30 minutes.

Subframe bushings are more difficult. Look underneath the vehicle. They are the two large round discs that hold the forward end of the subframe to the body. A bit more difficult but not too bad. Check the threads on these. You need to block the body way up in the air and then support the subframe because the bolts that secure the subframe to the body (through the bushings) will be removed.

The subframe bushings usually come as a set. There is a bushing for the left and a bushing for the right........and they are different.
