Air filter mount. Picture question

I purchased the air filter mounts (rubber bumper with threads on each end.

They are too large to thread into the mount that I have.

And

additionally...

the filter housing does not have any holes in it where the bolts would stick thru.

all that is there is this rubber bumper that sets on that mount.

does not look right

i put on 3 of those rubber mounts... your
picture does not look right to me... it looks like
you are showing the bottom of the breather...

the mounts go on a v shaped rail which is mounted on the care..
the rubber mounts have brass colored screws on eighter end.

you screw them into the mounting bracket on the bottom and then you
manuver the breather onto the mounting bracket... put the nuts on and then you put the air filter in....

ya, your holding up the bottom of the breather and that is what the picture is of... your rubber mount has broken off the bracket on the engine... my experience is that it usually brakes off the breather than breaking off the engine... So your rubber mount would go into the engine bracket and not into the breather like it is showing....really a very simple repair... if your rubber mounts are not screwing into the engine bracket then you may have the wrong ones...

ya

open your filter housing and remove the filter and under the filter every 120deg you will see a little nut about 1/4 20 in size... and that is top of your rubber mounts...

filter mount??

Looks to me like the metal part of the rubber bumper is still screwed into the bracket. See if the hex shaped part doesn't unscrew? The other hole isn't used .

yep

yep thats right...

your rubber shock mount brok in half and left the majority connected to the air filter housing and left the bottom portion still screwed into the mount.. so tike a pair of channel lock and unscrew the bottom portion of the shock mount from the bracket... and do the same with the bottom of the air filter housing... and it should work fine....when you put it all back together be cautious when you slip the airfilter housing back down into the turbo oil return..

by the way, this is a great introduction to working on your 300sd... this is a great place to start....I will give you some advise as you start working your way around this car.... 1. becareful with the neck and the nipple of the radiator... they brake very easily... so if your thinking about new hoses just be very catious....also when you decide to do your fuel filter... refil it with diesil before you put it on.... and remember you must pump the system back up.. but all in all your on your way...

Not on a German car!!! 10mm.

MGC,
You have to take the old, broken parts off before you put the new parts on. Possibly your new mounts are the round style and it's not obvious those hexagonal "rubber bumpers" are actually the old mounts in their broken configuration.

Thanks

I will investigate more tomorrow. I appreciate the advice. I'll post progress tomorrow. IF it stops raining.

I'm all wrenched out. I worked on biodiesel this morning..

Technically, the nuts are 6mm. They take a 10mm socket........if we really want to get down to brass tacks........
