bypass oil filter

i would like to put a bypass oil filter on my mb 300sd 1983

where would you guys install it... they recommend drilling the oil pan for
the return and getting the oil from the oil preasure sending unit...

but i was thinking i could return the oil right at the top of the breather and have it dump right down the return line that comes out the top of the valve cover....

So now where could i get the oil from...

id probably not want to put it into the breather.. what happens if it gets clogged .. run away.. just see if you can T it into the turbo drain.. and i think you can somehow make it fit with the current oil filter housing.. let me know how it goes i want a franz.. but i need alot to do before i play with that

Good news! Your MB was designed from the factory with a bypass filter. The oil filter element is a duel unit which you probably already know. If you want to add a larger element such as the Gulf Coast or Amsoil then you certainly could do so. The best filter I have ever see with a very cool video is the FS 2500.

If you want to get the oil from the pressure sender you will need a 12x1.5mm tee. Good luck finding one.

looks

looks like once you t ed into the oil preasure sending unit your oil preasure would go down... cause the preasure going to the sending unit would be reduced by the flow over to the bypass filter...

So Diesel Giant, does the factory oil filter have two different micron ratings since there is a bypass?

I used a GCF on my '80 wagon. I got oil that goes to the IP, and returned to the IP. Worked great and OA's showed it was doing the job.

The bypass section of the stock filter is not a "bypass filter". It does not filter anywhere close to the micron ratings of a Bypass Filter.

no where that of a gulf coast or franz that uses TP and not a cotten stuff blend.

MTU would you belive that the IP is getting enough lubrication from that setup..it looks like an easy setup.. id be worried about oil starvation if something happened

Good question, and other have asked it. Perhaps a gallon every quarter hour. My engine showed no ill effects, but it may very well be that I could not see or notice the effects.
