Me to...I've got 264K plus change on my 83 SD, the car is a blast to work on and to drive. There is a huge library of data here and doing a search will cure most all your car's ills...and give you some heads up on the quirks of owning a diesel Benz. Do yourself a favor and surf around for old posts...you will soon learn more then you ever before wanted to. Good luck and enjoy...

Welcome.
I too just aquired a 1983 300SD (Feb 4th, 2006) and am thrilled.
I got everything working and look forward to years (and many miles) of service.

This is the greatest place for info. I could never have gotten these cars up
to the condition they are without this group .

Talyon,

First lets get started correctly with the correct terminology. Although your 300SD has many motors, (starter, window, blower, ETC motors) it has but one Diesel ENGINE. THat's the 800 pound hunk of cast iron under the hood that propels the car.

Good luck with your MB. Over the years you will come to love it.

Or hate it.

My SD was a hunk of crap.

Jay.

P.S. If you can't figure out from the context that someone is referring to the "engine" when they say "motor"....

thanks for the heads up. could you show me where to put the freeze plug on the starter ive been looking for two days? The Cobra I BUILT runs low 10s in the 1/4 N/A so like i said ,hopfully i will be able to contribute to this forum. I feel that Diesel motors are wonderfully simple in design and the compresion still makes me scratch my head. This car will be alot of fun.

Taylon,

Welcome to the board! As soon as someone puts together another Austin get together you'll have to bring that car out....if you can find the place for the freeze plugs.

I have an 84 SD and I love it. Need to do glow plugs, but that's no big deal.

Enjoy it here...there is a wealth of great information and help around here.
