92 300D 2.5T Front flex disc / acceleration normal now.
I posted about acceleration stumbling. I was told it was the front flex disc.
I had done them three years ago. I did not think that was the problem. Once again, you guys were right. Look what I found. Did transmission mount and shifter grommet as well. Thank you to all that helped me. Nick Mendoza |

The flex discs used on MB's, in my opinion, are wonderful devices for decreasing noise and vibration, but, as per your picture, when they fail, they can catastrophically fail. It seems to me flex disks should be treated like a regular replacement task, well prior to failure. I damaged the splines on my transmission output shaft by not changing a bad center support bearing and rubber support boot soon enough, but flex disc problems could have done the same thing. I agree with you about the help that is available on this forum. Problems I couldn't solve I was given the solution for, enabling me to fix the problem myself.

Nick,
Who was the manufacturer of the flex disks you replaced 3 years ago? Seems like a brief life for those unless you'd driven many miles in that period... Also, was the development of the symptoms (shuddering) gradual or sudden? Tx,,,Geoff |

Hey man,
I have got to change at least the front disk on my car this summer. Did you have to remove the exhaust?

It was not difficult on my car.
No, I did not have to remove any part of the exhaust system.
1. Take you center heat shield. (mine was 4 bolts) 2. Took out cross member (4 bolts) 3. Dropped center support (2 bolts) =To be able to move the flex disc more. I just dropped it, I did not take it out. 4. Three bolts have a head for a socket. Three others have an allen head. Make sure that you have a 3/8 allen driver for your ratchet. 5. Reverse for the installation. |
