Recommendations on new AC comp 300sd

Hi

I posted earlier on a rattle on my 300sd (1983) when the AC compressor is disengaged. Two different techs have diagnosed a poor compressor clutch - slipping and wobbling. Belt and the idler pulley are OK.

In reading the board here the majority here seem to favour a new GM compressor over a reman unit. Do you agree? My AC is already R134a, converted by MB dealer about 5 yrs ago. I know it'll have to be evacuated, cleaned and the receiver/dryer done as well. I'll inspect the hoses carefully at the same time.

Sourcing will be a bit of a pain. I will probably order from Phil or someone on the Internet in the US as an over-the-counter unit up here in Toronto is $480 US vs. about $300US plus $25 shipping from an Internet outfit - ouch!

Thanks for any advice proposed
