Any E320 CDI Owners?
I love my '87 300DT and have been thinking about adding an '05 or '06 CDI to my collection. If I do, it will be to keep for the LONG HAUL. My biggest concern is not the engine, but the rest of the body, tranny, computers, and so on...
Anyone have any experience with the newer E's and their general reliability? Any advice specific to the new CDI's? Are they worth having, or should I look for a nice 98/99 E300D instead? TIA BenzDriver '87 300D 174K |

Oh, and do you think the CDI engine will be as reliable as the 602/603/617's?

I was just reading about an '05 on ebay. It said it only gets 32 mpg; I thought it would be higher than that.
Still, I'd like to have one. I haven't seen many questions about CDI's on the forum here, I wonder if that's because they don't have a lot of problems, if it's because they're still under warranty, or if the people who own them generally don't that much about saving a few bucks by doing it themselves. Or maybe all those reasons.

Wha? Huh? Wow, must be a new concept! Here people shout expletives at out-of-towners. Chicago has an easier to navigate grid layout; DC has that L'Enfant/Jefferson/Banneker confusion, so visitors ALWAYS get lost, cause accidents, hold up traffic. I even get lost sometimes.

I hate to send you away, but over in the UK they have had experience with the CDI engines, especially the I6, since the turn of the 21st century. There are 271 topics that are CDI specific. Enjoy. ![]()

I like them, they seem to be a real nice car. When the SD dies a CDI is on my list provided they don't comand a rediculous premium over the E320/350's.
Bashing new MB's seems to be popular around here, but over at MBworld their are more then a few CDI owners who seem happy as can be.

I have E320 CDI 2006
This car has under 3k miles and had been in the shop 2x already. I'm waiting to hear how long this time, as the part is back ordered. The first time was to replace the windshield as there was a bubble that the rain sensor perceived to be rain. Ok, no real big deal. This time is different and at first they want to claim it is because I run on B99. The car stalled, died in a particularly uncomfortable traffic situation with no where to pull over. I was not pleased. The fuel pumps were replaced as the diagnostics indicated there was some type of seal deteriation indicated by a pressure problem. Now that the car still isn't functional, it appears that the control valve delivering fuel to the pump is delivering too much fuel and this might have been what burned up the pump. Other than that the car is great.

Was the B99 made and tested to ASTM specs?
If not the fuel supplier should be held responsible for selling bad fuel. Remember these new technology diesels are sensative to bad fuel. common rail and pumpe duse (VW similar technology) Can have problems when bad bio is ran through them. ask your fuel supplier!
