1982 300 SD Oil Cooler Hoses Replaced
I got German hoses out of Miami from Mercedes 991 Seller; Ebay. They look fine and don't swivel at the joints like the old ones did. The installation is a PITA but I went slow and ended up with no leaks. I have two concerns that the 2 hoses don't join at the lower clamp and also the Bottom Hose seems a bit too close to Engine Mount and also the Engine Shock. I don't remember the olds ones being this close. The ends matched up fine at cooler and filter. I wish I had taken pictures of the original installation but forgot to. I have pictures of this installation but the files are too big to post here but I will try. I have requested another hose out of Miami. I will post pic here and see if it goes. Otherwise PM me and I will send over internet.

Those hoses cross over kind of strangely.
On the cooler the top is also the top on the filter, but instead of stayng on top front to back (which would have been easier to R&R) they cross on the middle (sort of). This makes for a goofy fit. It helps to study before removal. Got another car you can compare to ? My guess is they just need to be flipped so they can fit in the brackets.

Thanks Rhodes again,
Yeah funky set up for sure. I don't have another car to compare to. I know, I know should have taken pics but I didn't. Yes top cooler goes to top filter and the intermingle as they go. Since both ends meet their respective spots nicely, I'm kind of thinking I have it installed correctly, but still close to Engine mount. |
