Question 1980 300D A/C vacuum valves

Hi all,

I was looking at the skinnerbox pages for the A/C vacuum troubleshooting guide and it shows all 5 vacuum control valves for the vents etc side by side. I can't find them! Where am I supposed to be looking?

I'm not getting air through my center vents (hot or cold).

Thanks!

Lower center vents by the feet, or the upper center vents in dash ?

I know if you take off the lower panels on each side there are vaccum pods for vents
right above the center vents - not sure if these are them.

Upper center vents have a vacuum actuator up there right behind the vents.

dash vents

I'm not getting air out of my dash vents. The pods hold vacuum when I connect a vacuum pump to line 5 at the black box above the coolant pump in the engine compartment. The problem is that no vacuum is being sent to the compartment. Anyone have any ideas which line should be sending vacuumto the box or where to test from here?

This document describes the replacement system.
It has some great diagrams that help understand the vacuum lines.

This document is the original manual for our system.
It also has a really good explanation of how it works.

Now for an answer on those center vents. You may have other problems with the system.
But lately we have found that disconnecting the vacuum pod, wiring the vent open, is better.
You can then close or open by just turning the vent.

To disconnect the center pod (mine leaked) take out the glove box and go to the left.
Under the rubber boot you can wire it open. I disconnected my vacuum line to the pod and plugged it with a golf tee.
