What part is this (picture) - 1978 300D, non-turbo

Can anyone tell me what the below part is? I have one yellow vacuum line that runs thru the firewall into the cab (where all of the other vacuum lines also run) that is unattached to anything. If you look at the picture, the screwdriver is pointing to a vacuum connection, which has not had a hoase connected since I have owned the car (5 months), and there is one connection with a black vacuum line attached to the right on this part.

Car runs and shuts off fine, ACC vacuum seems to work ok, and I'm just about finished with the door lock system. Is this a serious leak?

Car is a 1978 300D, non-turbo.

That's part of your injector pump. If you have a turbo, it's probably the ALDA

Yep looks like an older style ALDA device, on the non-turbos its only there for altitude fuel compensation....other than that it doesn't do much. And I believe the non-turbo models have nothing hooked up to the ALDA, it just has that little pipe for breathing/detecting the air pressure of the surrounding atmosphere....

FWIW, that connection is also open on my 240D.

I think it's officially called an ADA on a non-turbo, since it only compensates for altitude. ???

You're correct, but I was trying to avoid the whole "what does that stand for?" discussion.

I cant count how many non-turbos I've seen with a vacuum line hooked up to it (By mistake). By the way it works, hooking up a vac line will make the pump think it's around 22,000' altitude...
