How do I clean a Turbo for a 1982 300d
 

I might be suffering from a little power loss and I think it might be the turbo. I recently read a post giving some advice on cleaning some parts on the turbo to make sure it works correctly. Is there link somewhere with some pics that shows the parts that should be cleaned out? Or can someone give me a description on where these valves and lines are?

A forum search on turbo might help.

Take off the U tube to the turbo and check to see if it spins freely. Also check for play (front & back, wobble side to side).

I belive what may have been mentioned is cleaning the alda line which provides fuel "enrichment" with turbo boost. This is a line that goes from the rear of the intake manifold to the overboost valve and then to the alda, which is part of the IP. This line can become obstructed, especially at the intake end, and need cleaning.

(I believe I would avoid any advice to do any cleaning of the turbo itself. Hi-speed bearings and solvents don't get along too well.:eek: )

i didn't really plan on taking the whole thing apart and cleaning it...just some of the hoses so i can get max performance....any pics of these lines i need to clean...and are they hard to get off...

At the rear end of the intake manifold, there is a clear (could be dark now) plastic line running to a crossover at the firewall. A bolt holds the banjo bolt (connected to the clear line) in there.

Again, I would urge you to use the "search this forum" feature. Do a search for ALDA or banjo bolt.

you do not clean a turbo.... I cleaned a turbo on a saab and it
ruined it.... although our turbos are not as hot as a gasser a turbo collects
coke inside the oil area... and cleaning will dislodge it... and dislodged coke
clogs the oil return and casue the turbo to fail... the best way to clean a turbo is to use good oil like mobil 1... and over time it will clean it....

there is a thing called an alda line on the back of the engine with a banjo bolt you can clean... and that will help....
