Yes. On monday I may indeed get the chance. The "remains" are in the back of my father's pickup truck. We hoisted the shortblock in there, along with all bits and pieces. I can pick them up at my leisure, as the pickup is not used all that frequently.

I don't get what the big deal about the 603's having sleeves is? All MB diesels that I am familer with are dry sleeve engines.

Kind of thought it was commen knowledge.

I bid on this car several times and came close to buying it from the owner early. There were several things wrong with the car that could have been costly to fix. I chickened out at the last minute and bought another 1995 E300. I must say I was hot to have one for awhile if I could find one that had the engine replaced. This one was replaced under the STARMARK warranty. It had 141,000 miles on the new engine. In the final analysis this is one Great Road or Touring car. I just don't travel that much anymore. Keeping it aligned was another problem inherant in this model. The evaporator was my next concern since it has never been changed. It's just a matter of time. So there was just too much to have to spend to get it in first class condition.
