Cool car. But the Caterham 7 is an affordable car you can buy in this country today. Plus the must have a racing following. It would be a fun car to race in SCCA events.

I've been seriously thinking about a 914/TDI. KEP makes the needed adaptor, clutch.
If I find a donor reasonable... |

I think you can get the adaptor from an old diesel vanagon. That would be cool!

those super 7's are affordable.. for about the same price of an entry leval sedan you can get a pretty decent 7..
http://www.caterhamsouth.com/clubsportspecs2.html lucky me they sell them in my state.. now where can i get the money to buy one and insurance.. i would so drive that everyday to school and back.. although i could easily go under a trailer and die.. it looks like a fun ride at the autocross |

Hmmmm
Totally different subject.... But you know what I would REALLY like to get in a diesel? I wish Audi would release an A4 with their CVT transmission with a CDI diesel engine..... Could you imagine the mileage? An easy to drive automatic car that gets the same fuel economy or better than a manual transmission..... |

I doubt a CVT could handle the torque of any CDI over 2.0L. The largest engine used with a CVT today is the Ford Five Hundred (3.0L V6) and it only has 220ft lbs of torque.
It would be cool though. The computer would be able to keep the engine in it's sweet spot all the time. |

i have admired the seven since it was just a little six and i saw it in popular mechanics in the fifties. my dad and i daydreamed together on it. i have never even sat in one but i still harbor thoughts of buying one.
i want mine with a honda 2000 drive train and sixer. though i love diesels, this is one car that it is really silly to think of with one! nobody could actually drive one enough to benefit from the economy. the only really valid reason would be if you were on a desert island and it was the only combination left to put together and get a car to use. tom w

Perkins prema
Another engine for the british cars to consider is the perkins 2.0 litre (Prima) from the sherpa trucks and vans. I still have a prima and 5 speed in my 1975 pre production sherpa ( I did the conversion in 1997) and she gets about 45 MPG inp thats worth another 10 MPG in a small car.

This is a video of a kit car. Just to show what these things can do with a good driver. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7506892971279756993&q=Chris+Evans+Autocross

Audi's CVT uses a vandium alloy chain rather than rubber bands that most car makers use.... So I dont think its going to snap |
