My last A/C thread (maybe)!

My '78 300D is still not cooling very well, but I am making some progress. I keep a constant eye on vent temps and have noticed something odd - my vent temps go up 10-15 when I'm driving at highway speeds (65-70 mph)! Just tooling around town, waiting on my wife and idling, driving 40-50 mph or less, vent temps are much cooler. My understanding is the opposite should be the case - compressor should work better at higher RPM's. Anyone have any ideas? Could this have something to do with some of the temp sensors in the system?

Second, I read the procedure in the archives for getting 100% recirculated air but it was describing a newer car (with ACC version 3, and mine has version 2). Will this work on mine? Any other simple ways of getting 100% recirculated air with the A/C on? It gets pretty hot in Oklahoma!

Ryan

I think I have partly figured out some things, but...

My compressor keeps cycling off much more rapidly at higher rpm's than when the car is idling. If I rev the engine the compressor only runs for 10 +/-seconds before it shuts off for 5-10 seconds.

I replaced the drier and both switches (temp and hi pressure switch) - could this have anything to do with the ETR sensor?
