the thing that really ticks me off...

IS NO CUP HOLDERS IN THESE CARS!! This that a German thing? I know Germans drink, why no cup holders? The cute little indentions on the inside of the glove box door don't count. Little things mean a lot.

So what are you guys doing for cup holders? Or do you just drive with one hand?

Right now I am thinking of getting one of those H2O bladders with the long sippy tube and hanging it off the back of the seat. (Hope I can get ice cubes in it for my iced tea).

You are correct, Germans do not drink in their cars, they focus on driving when in the car. (my dad has explained this to me ) Newer MB's do have them though, but our cars are from the era when driving was an art, and you were riding in a precision machine built specifically for that purpose, not just a "means of transportation" that you'd be bored and drinking stuff in.

When I drink in the car I usually just have a water bottle with a cap, then I can just toss it on the seat next to me, or have it in the console laying down...works fine.

I've been waiting for this one

I got a cub holder wedge "for foreign cars" at Advance Autoparts that fits nicely between the seat an the armrest of my W123 and W126. Oddly it does not fit in the W150. Works good if i have no one in front seat. I keep hot coffee in a ceramic coffe mug just fine.

Different culture, Germans do no eat in the car. I frankly love not having cup holders, the rule in my car is you open up food you get dumped on the side of the road. So not having cup holders isn't a bad thing.

The new MB's have cup holders now, but they suck. The W210's robo arm one is decent.

BS, we have cupholders.

Just lower the glove box door and there are a couple of cupholders there.

Make sure you don't go over 20 mph and don't hit the slightest bump in the pavement.......and.......don't make any turns.

Build one.

A fill for the parcel tray between the seats, build a support, attach it to the front piece of the console and then reveneer it to match.

At some point, that is what I'll do, but I don't want to lose my crap storage either, so I'll only build one cupholder in

Or you can go to walmart and buy a dual adjustable cupholder called a "spill-master" for like 8 bux, I've had one since I got the car and it fits pretty well, just doesn't look nice.

Yeah I know, thats why when someone asks I'm better off saying the car doesn't have them. My dad uses those, you would be amazed at how smooth I can drive with a hot cup of coffee perched in one of them.

Decent by comparison, I take it. It's not what I'd call very good.

It really only holds one cup, unless the driver is extremely deft at reaching for his. And of course, let's not even discuss the electronics under it.

anybody built their own? post pics

When I get around to building my own I will post pics, currently I have an suv bench console wedged between the seatbelt posts and it works pretty well, covers the storage, but it comes with it's own storage pockets, and a change dispenser too!
UGLY as sin, but it almost matches the color (palomino) of my interior. can't use the armwrest though.....
and who says you have to drink while driving. drive through windows are also for picking up food and drink to transport where you are going to consume mass quanties! we will enjoy it!

on a 123 you can buy cup holders that attach to dash with velcro. one or two hole with adjustable holes. inexpensive and available i think at autozone.

on my 126 cars i sit them on the edge of the little bin in front of the shifter. cups with square bottoms work best. steady with hand on a corner to the left.

Crotch it!! I usually end up putting the drink between the legs.

I had a Toyota pickup that didn't have a cup holder, so I built one. It a similar little storage area in the center console like the 123 MBs. It worked really well. Never tipped a drink. I am going to have to build for my MB some time.

I have learned the art of driving a car with a manual tranny, smoking a cigarette, and drinking a cup of coffee. Once you learn how to do this, an auto tranny makes things much easier.

ps - notice I didn't say anything about talking on a cell phone while driving. Those people should be SHOT!!

Whatever happened to the guy who was making custom cupholders for 123s? He quit when the school year started. School is almost out now, crank up the factory.

I look at not having cup holders as just a fun part of owning a real German car.

Buy an American car if you want to keep that 2 gallon soda in easy reach.

HAHAHHAHA thats what I said.... I took pride in not having cup holders, UNTIL my friend spilled his coffee all over my old front passenger floor mat. At that point I decided to get cupholders to avoid another careless spill. But I didnt want a cup holder that would obstruct the design of the interior, and I didnt want them to stand out either. I found that the best option was the dual cupholders from performance products... they fit in the center console tray in the w123 series and other chassis with the console tray between the seats, and can be ordered in any MB tex color, or with a zebrano or burl wood finish. I opted for the Palomino to match the rest of my interior and blend in better. They look great, and work great- very sturdy construction, very compact, and are adjustable to hold just about any size cup. They arent cheap, but they are worth it in my mind if you dont want cup holders, but find them necessary to keep accidents from happening... they blend seamlessly with the interior, and virtually disappear when not in use.
