Smile Color Advice????

hi all,
my 81 300SD is the factory "maroon" color with palamino interior. i would eventually like to paint the car black, redo all the chrome, and buy chrome wheels from preformance products( the original bundt design) i havent seen this color combination before the black and palamino. do you guys think it would look alright? ive seen a few black 300SD's before and they just look like amazing.

Also what is your favorite color combinations?

Black over palomino is awesome for 126s. Should be just as good for 123s.

I like white over gray.

I would discourage you from repainting it black. Unless it's done properly, and all the maroon on the door jambs and underneath the hood it painted, the vehicle will look horrible. Naturally, if done properly, it will be a terrific looking vehicle........however, properly is probably north of $5K.

If you do it yourself it's not too hard to do the door jams. I am redoing my 85 300d from silver to marine blue. I've already done all my jams, door, trunk, hood, and gas door. It takes a good degreaser though to cut all the grime out.

We both have the new style driver's footwell panel.

It's called "steel corrugated air duct"

Much nicer than the carpeted version that came with the vehicle.

LOL still trouble shooting the Cruise Control issue I assume?

I picked up another servo and it was bad. I have such a pile I may get a free one here from GLI or whathaveyou that ya linked me to.

Just an FYI, gasser ones will bolt up BUT you have to change the linkage arm over. It's a 13mm nut, takes about two minutes off the car or about 20 with the servo installed. Again, don't ask...

Yeah......how'd you ever guess........

Two amplifiers, one of them completely resoldered, and nothing.

The servo checks out fine. Motor runs fine in both directions. Relay closes fine. No cruise.

Did you also do the GDL procedure for testing the switch and make sure you had a good connection to the speedo? Just checking.

I checked my switch, works fine. Dollar to a donut it's the servos on my end. I get ones that have 200K miles and UP on them. Oh well, like I said... if I accumlate enough free ones that place will buy them up for cores and I'll have free cruise.

FWIW, these guys will also do a "tune-up" and inspection of the actuator for $95, if you run out of patience:

http://www.gdl-online.com/tuneup.html

It may be worth giving them a call, they were pretty helpful when I talked to them.
