300D transmission in 300SD

As if I did not have enough projects already...

I found a 83 300SD for sale with a bad tranny. I have a spare '85 300d tranny.

Simply put: can I use the '85 300D tranny into an '83 300SD ?

I think not, only because the '85 is a different animal. Someone else will need to pipe up and provide the details. TC is different or something.....
You will always need to do something about the speedo input (mechanical vs electric) when swapping between SD and D versions of the 722.3xx tranny.

I know the 85 had different gearing but can I swap that sensor over from the other tranny ?
