re-painting my 87 300D, advice on color

Well my uncle said he would give me a deal on a paint job. Now i would love to have a midnight blue but for one, it would take to long and would be more pricey two, that would mean removing the engine and shooting the engine bay with the same color. not only that but basically taking apart the interior

So ive decided to go with a similar color. We used to have a ford explorer limited (which we traded a 98 C280 for) and i loved the color and so did everyone else. We would get many comments like "nice car! love the color" from random people...felt good

It was a pearl white, would go pretty well with the cream color. but what do you guys think?

Here is an example of what our old explorer looked like.

Looks like a pearl and will probably be a 3 stage to be done properly. Just takes more time and material,,, $$$$$$.

i always liked the ivory color pretty well. hard to beat sticking with the original color for practicality and resale.

I'd look up stock paint code and repaint to match. It still won't look right even if its another shade of white. The door jams will look different, you can tell.

Use the same color. Unless its just awful like my brother's Manila Beige 300d. Painting a car a different color will give most car buyers a reason to look at EVERYTHING at your car when its time to sell. Many people know enough about cars to be dangerous and a repaint to those people is an indication of an accident. People are afraid to the point of stupidity in buying accident damaged cars due to all the scare tactics that outfits like Carmax and the local news and insurance companies dedicate to the topic.

If I were interested in a car with mismatched door jams and engine compartment I would probably pass on the car unless it was just a really good deal. There are too many used cars on the market and I would not want to have that "taxi cab" look.

generally i agree.

but i did entertain the idea of painting my navy 82 300cd a recent mercedes color "orion blue" i believe, which is a stunning dark blue metallic. it is close enough i would have left the door jambs alone.

in the end i kept the original color and most of the original paint and did an extensive buff job.

well to be honest i think the color is pretty ugly. The black bumpers make it worse.

rcahse, a quick google of "Manila Beige" showed me a 190D with that color and thats the color of my car

My uncle does good work, you should see my dads 64 mustang. He removes the doors and gets the door jams so no worrys about that. I mean he isnt maaco

But if you say that the pearl is more expensive then are there any close colors to this? im not very fond of this color so there has to be something similar to it that looks better!!

I agree on that! I must say tho' I'm not too fond of that gold color MB put on the W126s in the 80s...
