Engine Motor Mount Experts Needed...SURVEY

Hello all I've been debating if the cause of my idle vibration is due to the engine mounts on my 1987 300TD. I've done just about everything else and still with the shaking interior panels.

Anyhow seeing that the mounts have not been addressed in a while I thought now might be the time. In searching for replacements I have come across some different mount designs for this car?

Here are a few pics, the first is my drivers side, can you tell if its bad??? I only noticed that the bottom side of the rubber meeting the frame is slightly torn. Mine is an MB unit.

The second pic is that from a Boge replacement, seems identical to the MB unit and likely the OE manufacturer.

The third and forth are from 2 different makers, but they use a collar design with the top cap apparantly compressing into the collar as the mount fails. Seems like a nice failsafe to keep the engine from walking.

OK the $0.02 question, Which design is best? What are you using and why. I have seen mention that the collar type of mount are solid rubber and not gell filled, is this true? Any advantage?

Thanks in advance

I put new engine mounts in mine, it did a world of difference. Esp one was totally collapsed, banging the crossmember when idling.

My old 80 116 300SD was like that too when sitting at a stop light < 30 secs the body started to shake too. But never changed the mount as it was sold.

Talk to German star in www.mbcanada.com he's in US.
Mines were $30 each for 126 not that bad.
I would not worry about buying the best type, chances that your mount shall out last your ownership. Dont we kind of change cars every few yrs. A new mount should be good for many yrs.

The mounts on the 603 engined cars (yours) are fluid filled. If they dry out and leak the mount may still look OK but be shot. I replaced mine with the first ones I saw on Fastlane that fit (which happened to be identical to the old ones). The difference was like night and day and was especially noticable at idle. Even with the bad mount the vibration wasn't too bad off idle but at idle it was more like my 617. When I replaced the mounts I found my passenger side mount had leaked completely dry but I couldn't see it until it was actually removed. By the way, my old mounts were the Boge OEM style and there was no indication of the engine having shifted, even with one totally dead mount.

Thanks...

Thank for your replies, still curious as to the design change of the mounts and whether there is a benefit or not, MB and Boge (same OE) use one style of mount, all other OE manufacturers use the collar style. I wonder why???
