1985 300D - How much Would You Pay

Where I can I find the used car value of a 1985 300D with 100k miles in good condition? Or those who have seen many of these cars, what would you pay?

Well, I would never trust the mechanical odometer to tell the truth... but up to $5,000.

EDIT- for a turbo with perfect mechanicals and good cosmetics.

It depends.. A 85 californian emissions is a car to run away from. If it federal emissions its a good one.

for a 85 federal:
really less than 200000 mi, in mint conditions (or at least everything working as it should), all record... yep. 5 grand
for a CD or a TD in the same conditions you may push to 6 and 7 respectively.
You can knock 1000 buck on a california 85 from the above prices to retrofit that air trap. And a 1000 buck for AC if not working.

ebay completed auctions

that is where you will find the best average sale price of theese cars.
it will tell you what buyers are willing to pay for them and what they will put up with in the way of damage.
HUGE grain of salt though, shill bidders can bump up the price.
good luck.
I got both of mine for free...
long story though.

I'd pay $2500 tops for one, and maybe up to $4000 for an '87 300D

It dependends on condition, condition, condition. What do you mean by "good condition"? Is the mileage documented? Does it have complete maintenance records? What is the interior/exterior condition? Any rust? Does everything work correctly (climate control, AC, cruise, windows, antenna, sunroof)?

Folks seen to have a wide range of definitions of "good condition." A decent driver with everything working should be worth at least $3-4000 (private party). An excellent car should be worth $5000+.

300d 85

Heres the condition on this one:

Mileage: 100k +- 10k (owned by a Physician friends whose family used it abit and sat in garage for awhile. So I would say mileage ican be trusted.

Everything works except AC (belt gone but I noticed compressor turns freely. May be fixable)

Interior is in excellent shape.

Runs very well. Needs new shocks. Original still on.

Some minor rust (mostly in seams at each lower corner of body)

Moonroof works and doesnt leak.

All electrical working. One amber foglight is out (anyone have a spare part??)

Still trying to figure out heat. Getting luke warm air. Only has water in coolant - very clean - no antifreeze but plan to replace.

that is a 3500-4000 car as per description. if the Ac was working you could push it to 5000, if the rust is really minor (you will have to dig to check) and they can provide the records (the fact that the car was sitting in a garage is no guaranty of mileage; these cars are 20+years old, even at 200000 miles that only 10000 miles a year which is not much driving).
Otherwise you go down from there...

Based on the description I would say closer to $3000, than $4000. Even minor rust can be expensive to fix correctly (consider getting an estimate from a body shop before making an offer). I can see you spending over $1000 on "minor" rust. The best case estimate to have a shop fix the AC is probably in the $200-$500 range. It's easy to spend $1000 if the compressor is also bad. Let us know what you do.

BTW, if the light is just burned out, you just need to replace the little bulb inside (H4, I think). If the assembly needs to be replaced, I've found them on eBay occasionally.
