Adsitco rebuilt engine advise????
 

I live in california and I am considering purchasing a rebuilt motor for a 1982 240D. Adsitco has a lower price than any other outfit I have found $2695, $400 core, $600 shipping. I have read some negative comments, and some positive here. Any experience with their rebuilt engines? One year unlimited mileage warranty. I bought a used motor a year ago for this car from ASAP motors out of Houston and got burnt as the motor was bad...What do you think?

Lowest price isn't always the best deal......How about Metric engines...very HIGH quality.

Their basic cost is $5300, $500. Almost twice as much. Budget is a concern here. I talked with one of the workers at Adsitco and was satisfied with the comprehensiveness of their rebuilds. Do you have any specific experiences with their motors?

no offense but for that price, you can get 10 (yes ten!!!) :eek: 616 engines from junk yards. One is bound to be still good! :cool:

First off - I’d get a list of everything that the Adsitco motor goes through before it’s sent to you. I know Metric has a very comprehensive list of everything they do/test/rebuild/replace during a rebuild. I’d get the two and compare.
The phrase - "Ya get what ya pay for." comes to mind here.


Personally - Rashakor is dead on here - Unless I’m going for a full restoration of the car, or planning a few cross-the-country treks; I’m hitting the junk yards when my motor finally goes.

There is a reason Metric Motors costs more, they probably do a better rebuild.

Will the Adsitco motor run better then a 20 year old engine you yank from a junked car? Probably. Will it run as well and last as long as a Metric rebuild? Probably not.

The queston is what is the difference? I'd like to see a list from both places of what they do.

There is a world of difference between a ring job, new bearings, and new valve seals. Or new pistons, all new valve's, new sleeves, ect.

I'd start putting feelers out for a wrecked 240D or a known good engine instead of buying a rebuild.. these engines should be good for 400k right from the factory. Do you plan on driving the car another 20 years?

You'd be better off buying a rust bucket and salvaging the motor. Then dump the rest of the car. Or buy a used 240 with a running engine, get a compression check before you buy it, salvage the engine and then part out the rest of the car.

Unless your car is a garage queen, I wouldn't spend $2,500 on it with an Adsitco engine.

Based on what I've heard about Adsitco (all second or third hand), I'm planning on picking up a Metric Motors reman when the time comes. If I'm going to go to the trouble/expense of swapping engines, I just don't want to have to do it again anytime soon. Just my $.02.
