Hello, I'm new to the site, but I already like what I've seen. I stumbled across it on my quest to find information on installing and setting an injection pump on an '80 300D. This is the first Mercedes I've gotten into working on, much less the first diesel I've gotten into beyond air bleeding.
Here's the scoop: I got hold of the car (240D) from a coworker that had been storing it for 4 yrs intending to "get it going again". The car came with an extra engine from a newer year 300D, as the original engine had the #1 rod hanging out the left side of the block. After a few trips to the local wrecking yard for parts and comparisons between a 240 & a 300, I got all the necessary parts to make the 4-5 cylinder conversion. Everything went smoothly and it's near to ready. I have already flushed and rebuilt the brakes, and changed the fuel (tank was good). I have gone thru the car, electrically and such, all seems to be working, Had to replace the vacuum lines on the ignition switch underdash, which I "think" are for shutting off the engine? One last thing I now need to do is change the injection pump to a different style that works with the car's original setup for vacuum and linkage control(has the white plastic dashpot controls on top). I have the pump, I just have no idea how to set/time it and get it in.
Any help is appreciated, thanks. -Chris
