Even if a twig got into the engine which it wont it is too big to go anywhere and its soft. Metal is what you dont want circulating in the engines. They had a show on the History Channel and showed the uses of cotton and how they process it. Now I understand why the "stuff" is in the filters. I have never heard of one instance of any engine failing because of using cotton. It is an excellent filter and very efficient.
