Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I thought I would give readers some closure.

To recap, I first sent the tach off.

Then I got a very large parts order of new seals and gaskets and filters and such and solved most of my oil leaks and also installed the new air filter housing. (back to stock, and sounding much better)

Next I glued my hood pad in. (it looks great!)

Then I drained the transmission and TC and put a new filter in and a new gasket... but it still leaks. I torqued down to specs.

I did end up upgrading the alternator and associated wiring... its all done and perfect now. 120 amps.

I never did re-do the A/C just charged it back up with the R-134a and it works.

If you have been following my posts, I did just complete some front end suspension work and all new shocks. I also did sway bar links in the rear... wow, what a difference.

I do still have the money from my birthday... still debating on what to do with it.

I start a new job on the 18th, so Ill have more income.

Comments?

What model alternator did you use? I want to record it somewhere so when my car's 55Amp (seemingly immortal) one goes someday, I can replace it with a 120....what wiring did you have to change, the coupler? My A/C compressor still turns over freely too, but I think my hoses need to be replaced. I'll debate it next summer. And michigan does get hot by the way, we hit 97 degrees this July, with about 85-90percent humidity. Thankyou, global warming. I survived it without any A/C, and I drove about 8,000 miles this summer. I am rugged.

I used an alternator off of a 1997 Saab 900 (only because I got a great deal) . I had to modify it to work though, and I completely upgraded all the cabling for everything.

check out http://pgmfi.org/~firepyroandy/ under "Andy's Alt Wiring" to see many high quality pictures of what I did.

Also search my name for recent threads to see the whole write-up.

Search Alternator and find the monster thread about throwing in a 115 amp unit from an earlier saab.

the, um wires look good

Where did you get the neon cables?
with those cables in, how soon before you pull the engine and repaint all the rest of the car? they really do highlight how much rust and dirt is on the car.
in the last picture, what do you suppose that unplugged connector is on the firewall beside the starter?
I can tell from reading ALL your posts that you really love your car, and will make it a daily driver for your grandkids (for those that don't know, Andy is still in his late teens)

I fought the same thing on mine. I pulled the pan bolts and applied threadlocker and retorqued. So far, knock on wood, it seems to have cured the problem.

Cardomain.com

Best quality around, and free shipping.

The car is dirty, I know. But I dont have the money to respray the whole car right now, and I would want to do a complete restoration.

If your talking about the connector on the block, under the turbo thats the stock block heater. If your talking about the red wire in the upper right hand corner, thats the 4ga. power wire going to the trunk for the amp.

I do really love my car... I just wish I had more time and money to spend on it.

I am currently dealing with several issues... maybe someday (probably years from now) I can remove the engine and clean everything up and make it look presentable.

I hope my car lasts that long The salt on the ohio roads is crazy, and rust has started to become an issue.

Thanks for the compliments, I did spend quite a while doing all that wiring, but Im very happy with it.

Maybe Ill try this, could I do each bolt individually? to save wasted transmission fluid?

Its not that ugly... just in the engine compartment.

Feel free to look around at http://pgmfi.org/~firepyroandy/
The exterior paint isnt bad at all. The interior isnt horrible, but Im working on it.

Thanks for looking on the positive side of things.
