In regard to Imul's post
Something was definitely wrong with that car as the diesels made in the 90's are heck of a lot quieter and smoke free than the cars from the 80's Compared to the 1985 300SD I owned...both my 1992 300D(former) and my 1992 300SD(present car) are a huge difference in accelleration, smoke and smoothness ...you should find a newer diesel that has been "maintained" and see what a world of difference MB has made in the newer vehicles. I'm in total agreement.
I've driven a few of 90's SD's when my Dad was searching for one. The level of refinement (as far acceleration, smoke and smoothness, etc) was almost "undiesel like" (I do mean that as a complement). The 350sdl that I mentioned in the other post seemed to be in the last stages of a certain demise.

I agree I have a 84 300D Turbo with 112,000 original miles on it. I never drive this car because of its design, poor acceleration, braking, etc.
My daily driver is a 92 300D 2.5. The newer diesels are MUCH MUCH better. |
