Fluid level should be checked hot.

Agreed with Pete. In order to get it to proper operating temperature, take it out on a 20 mile highway drive. After that, park it on LEVEL ground, and put the selector through each gear, pausing for a few seconds in each. When you arrive back to park, remove the transmission dipstick, wipe the fluid off with a lintless cloth. Wait 2-3 mins before you place the dipstick back in the tube. Then, put it back in the tube, wait 3-4 seconds, and remove. Check it 2-3 more times to get an "average" reading, since these MB dipsticks aren't always exact first time around.
