80 240D wiring & sensor question-correction
Ok, I goofed, I meant the one I need to know about was the wire on pin #8, for the sensor marked "NTC". If I don't need to put it on the new engine it'll save a lot of hassle fighting that frozen in plug that's been there for years.

Ok, after another cup of coffee this morning, and a beer later this afternoon, I got to thinking about this and kicked myself for even thinking of trying to "cheat". I've been doing this stuff wayyy too long to ask a dumb question like that, much less even think that way. If it was on the car to begin with, it had a specific purpose and was there for a reason, that being said , I need to make a point to reinstall it to the new engine. I fabbed up a tool this afternoon out of a 17mm bolt and 2 nuts, to insert into the block plug to spin it out so I can put the sensor bushing in. I also took the original 4 cyl 240 glow harness which was still soft like new, and modified it for the 5 cyl. The #4 wire was in bad shape, so I cut the glow end off, stripped it back and tinned the end, then I cut the #4& 5 wires out of the 5 cyl harness that had crusty split shielding and desoldered the connector pins, then soldered the bare ends to the cut wire, pulled the wires in using the old #4 wire, and the harness is now soft like new, will fit to the 5 cyl engine, has wiring for both sensors, and looks dead like a factory job. All needs done now is install the exhaust and put roadworthy tires on, then it's test drive time!
