Unhappy 1983 300D having climate control issues

well, i have read many threads on here from people having climate control issues in their mb autos. i am currently looking for some very general advice concerning my car.

my auto is still relatively new to me and i am still attempting to get this car to do what it is supposed to do in many areas- today we were excited to get the lights to work on the consoles....

anyway, my climate control does nothing- i push the buttons and turn the dial in every combination possible and i get neither heat nor cold. i understand that, from various persons working on my car, the ac may just be disconnected, and that does not bother me- that is why i have windows and a moonroof...what disconcerts me is the fact that i have no heat, including no defrost for my front window. this being a state with fickle weather, i would like some general advice that may laundry list a few things that might be wrong with the climate control, causing it this lack of doing anything. my family is fairly experienced working on mb engines, etc, but this is something we have yet to tinker with and any advice you have to give us would be more than well appreciated!

cheers-
~anna.

Currently in storage due to a transmission that was never reconnected by a now deceased family member and a hole in the floor the seat is easing into.

Start by checking the fuses, but it is possible (likely) that the problem is the push button climate control unit. Do a search on climate control and you will find lots of info on fixing these, which is sometimes successful. Also, check out this website:

http://www.gdl-online.com/begin.html

These guys test and sell rebuild climate control units and cruise control units. I bought a climate control unit from them and it has worked perfectly for a couple of years.

the information you provided was helpful- thank you! the climate control now works, for the most part- the only thing i have not had the occasion to fix the air conditioner as of yet- something is un-capped under the hood that shoudl not be and we believe that since the car had been sitting for two years, the AC might need to be completely refurbished. that task, however, must be put last in line when compared to the other things that need to be repaired on our three mercedes!

cheers, and very many thanks for your advice!

So what did you have to fix to get it to work at least on the heat side?
