Name Those Engine Parts! (Picture Quiz)

Hey guys,

I bought a donor motor for my street rod and it happens to be a 1983 300D. So, umm.. I have no idea what these things are, but they seem to be attached to important things. Maybe some of you guys can help me out:

1) Below: Seems to have heater hoses attached to it.

2) Below: What is the connector/wire for on this switchover valvey thingy?

3) Below: Wtf is this black box for?

4) Below: Why do I need this cylinder thing? It says VDO on it. VDO to me means sending unit for gauges. Anyway, do I need it?

5) Below: This seems to be important. It's on the passenger side fender and it's right next to the turbo inlet tube. It has coolant lines attached to it? Do I need it?

Thanks for anyone's help, ahead of time!

Anyone in New England want this beast when I'm done with it? The rest of the chassis seems to be in good shape!

5. auxiliary coolant pump for cabin heat

1.) Monovalve (helps if you want heat. If broken and you don't want heat, it helps anyway)

2.) not 100% sure.

3.) Vacuum gadget. It distributes a certain amount of vacuum to specific places depending on how far the accellerator pedal is pushed.

4.)If you want your RPM gauge to work, you will leave it there.

5.) If it is attached to item #1 don't mess with it. If not, then it could be an A/C line. If it is the little tubing going into the turbo, don't mess with it. (Maybe it's best you follow the hose to its terminus, and figure it out from there; or ask again)

Ahh, sweet. Thanks for the quick replies.

Looks like everything's attached to the monovalve for the heat exchanger. I might end up hooking that up to some heat. Thanks.

I'd like to know what the connector on that overboost protection circuit goes to. It disappears into the harness and that scares me. I want as little wiring as possible.

I really want to keep it stock, just polish everything up. It's intended to run on vegetable oil sooner or later. I actually saw the size of the turbo today and snickered a little... That might change, but not much else.

Anyone know what that connector is for? It's the only thing I'm worried about.

#5 appears to be the aux coolant pump, also in an odd location (just like the horn) Maybe previous people have messed around with stuff? If its all working fine I'd leave it alone.

Well.... I did ask, didn't I?

I was thinking that the connector goes to the switch under the accellerator pedal. However, I could be way wrong (at this time of day even more so!)

There's a switch down there? The interior reeks, I dont want to go in there and look...

Bottom line is: do I need that connector for the overboost protection to work?

Yes there is. Look tomorrow, when it's light out. Bring a flashlight.

They call it a "kickdown switch" If you look for it in fastlane/partsshop, it is in the "body electrical" sub section. They have a picture there.

Oh gees.. this is getting more interesting by the minute. First I moved the throttle linkage and about a million other linkages moved in unison.

This is going to be fun... I'm trying to do away with all my stupid wiring..

No one came to a concensus about pictures number 3 and 4.

The thing on top of the valve cover is for the vacuum for EGR and transmission, and the VDO sending unit on the fender is for the tachometer?
