300SD suspension problem

I have a 1982 300SD which had been lowered at one point. The caster(brake) bushings where also bad. I ordered brand new springs and bushings for the SD from EEC(mercedesparts.com) in La Mesa, CA. I have been dealing with Bob at EEC for a long time and trust his opinion and expertise. He told me that he had never received a complaint about the springs he sells. After I had the springs and bushings installed at a local suspension shop the ride height on the front of the car became at least 1-2 inches higher than stock, and the ride got worse. It feels like a lowered car, not like a W126. What should I do?

Can you tell what modifications were done when this car was "lowered"? Were just the springs shortened? Both front and back?

If so, there may be other worn suspension components. How about height of the rear? I found on mine that worn trailing arm bushings, subframe bushings, and differential mount caused the rear to sag and the car always looked nose-high.

If there seems to be no other worn items, the front springs may need to "settle" or "wear in". I believe someone else here ran across this situation. How long has it been since replacement of the springs?

Remember that the SD has a very high look at the front.......above the tires. I don't have the exact figures for it, but most of them have at least 3" between the tires and the fenderwell lip.

If the new springs are to spec, you'll probably be looking at close to 4" at this location. Now, if you are seeing 5-6", then I'd agree with you.

When I can finally get the spring compressor back, I'm going to cut the front springs on the SD to lower the nose slightly......maybe by 1" or so. That slightly nose high look is always annoying.

I need to measure the front of the car, but it does seem to be several inches higher than a stock 300SD. The rear is also too low.
