At that price, they can't be new.

Of course not. I NEVER buy a new one, always rebuilt. Of course I only put the BG oil in them and never ever had one go bad yet. I do lots of Mercedes A/C conversions 123 only though.

I was trying to do a "first class" job with a new compressor. But, given the questionable arrangement with the seals, I am wondering if a reman compressor might be better idea.

Well, I thought I was buying a new compressor. Matter of fact, I was told I was buying a new compressor. The my new compressor had a "remanufactured" sticker on it when I got it.
This would be from our web sponsor here.
Now, in all fairness, Phil offered to take it back and pay the shipping, but at the time I was ready to get it done. A mistake, but we'll hope it lasts.
Phil said he just assumed it was new because they weren't asking for a core....
No hard feelings, but I shoulda sent it back. Too much $ for a reman.

Jimmy, hope you're done kicking yourself so you can finish up and enjoy it. Truth be told, you'll probably have saved a lot more than that by doing it yourself.

I just got back from "rescuing" the wife and kids at the middle school. She couldn't turn the key in the minivan ignition because my daughter had engaged the steering lock playing with it. How could you not know to turn the wheel AWAY from the lock pin so the key will turn? Sadly, I think that's in the "average" range!

I ordered my compressor from a parts "haus" in Arizona. Their web site clearly showed a picture of a seal kit with the correct seals. But that's not what I received. What did they say? "Go to a parts store and buy the seals you need." And this is from a parts vendor that claims to specialize in MB parts. But at least the compressor was new.

And I was told that my Ebay vacuum pump and flush gun had shipped on Monday. Finally got a tracking number today. My order actually shipped on Thursday, the day after I would have received it if it had actually shipped on Monday.
