300D black plastic box on top of engine?
1983 300D
I was told that underneath the small black plastic box on top of the engine is some type of vacuum control to transmission. Can anyone tell me the name of that? I was also told about the banjo bolt facing the fire wall -- and the carbon build up in it that can lower performance significantly. Does it use crush washers? It attaches to vacuum line--any tricks on replacing that in case it breaks? thanks |

The banjo bolt uses metal seal washers. You can probably get away with reusing the existing ones. The line at the rear of the intake manifold carries air under pressure, not vacuum. |

Welcome to the forum.
My strong recommendation is to eliminate all the lines to and from the black box. You'll have a cleaner underhood environment and the leaking valves inside the black box won't affect your shifts anymore. Check out this thread on how to do it: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=136433&highlight=EGR |
