95 E300D flashing glow plug light
I have a 95 E300 diesel. All glow plugs were replaced in April 06. In early June glow plug light started to stay on for about one minute after starting car, then went out. This did not happen every time I started car, but usually once or twice a day, particularly around mid-day (hot climate here). Yesterday and today the glow plug indicator light on dash came on while driving and stayed on for a few seconds. I have heard this could wear down the battery fast if not fixed. So I replaced the glow plug relay. Now the glow plug indicator light on dash started flashing after returning from short drive. By the way, the car starts and runs fine. Is it likely that I have a bad glow plug, or perhaps a connection is loose, or ????

I have the same issue - my glow plug light will come on a couple minutes after starting - about once every 7 or 8 starts. It started doing it about 5 years ago, and the dealer said don't worry about it - so I haven't and I have not seen any side effects.

When my 617 started doing that it was diagnosed as a bad GP relay, so I installed the "post-glow" kit (new relay) and it hasn't happened since.

jiggs,
The GP light in the dash being on does not mean the GP are energized. It is just a timer to advise U how long to wait for the GP to heat. Do a resistance check on all the GP to determine if any one of them is open circuit. P E H |

I have seen a similar thing happen on a '79 300SD when the grounding strap between the frame and engine was loose.
