would a 5 speed manual tranny from a 601 bolt up to a 603 in an SDL?

I have access to a 1984 190D 2.2 with a 5 spd. manual transmission. Could I convert my SDL to a 5 speed very easily? I am mainly concerned with bolt pattern and flywheel.

Thanks
David

I think you can technically connect the engine to the clutch and tranny, but functionally mounting it to the chassis is another thing altogether. You'd need a W126 manual pedal assembly, shifter and linkage, trans mount bracket, driveshaft, etc. Lots of time-consuming work, but an interesting concept.
