300d idle problem

I've got a 1982 300d, running on biodiesel. Is there a way to raise the idle speed? I need to stay on the throttle after starting, or the engine chokes itself out. Thanks
Mike

Mike, I'm pretty sure the 82 300 is like my 80 240 is, being that it has a cable that attaches to the linkage bracket above the injector pump, that goes back into the firewall. That goes to a small flat looking knob just below the warning light strip on the dash on the left side (near the dimmer knob). The cable is an idle speed adjuster from inside the cabin (intended for adjusting to seasonal climate/temp changes) If there isn't enough range in it using the knob, it can be adjusted via the threaded sleeve at the bracket, threading it into the bracket lowers and out raises speed. (If yours is worn like mine is, you might also need to hold the throttle down a little as you turn the dash knob to raise speed so it won't just bind up)

The 300D does not have that idle speed adjuster, if you want to increase the idle speed you need to use the adjustment screw (between the IP and the engine).

That screw is secured with a nut that has been living in the same position for 24 years. Put a bit too much torque on the nut to break it loose and you'll crack the cast ear right off the IP.

Make sure you spray this nut down with PB or Kroil for several days prior to the event, and, be sure to take it easy on the nut.

No problem, I just happen to own one of each type.

Pay attention to Brian's warning, you do not want to have to replace your IP because of this silly adjuster breaking. That would be a very bad day.

I like to say that very few of us are experts on these vehicles, but, collectively, we know a tremendous amount.

You're correct, I should have said the turbo 300D doesn't have one (his car is an 82).
