I'm thinking about removing my screen before I start using WVO but as Biodiesel300TD mentioned maybe mine is clean and doesn't need it.

You guys think I should clean it first or wait to see what happens?

I can't afford any loss of power in a 240!:D

My understanding is that the problem is gunk deposits that build up on the side of the tank that are dissolved/loosened
by the solvent action of the bioD or WVO. Thus your screen can be completely clean now, and gunk up after your first several tanks of WVO.

I would check the screen after the first several tanks of WVO.

I'm at that stage too. At about a quarter tank, it starts to get robbed of fuel going up hill. Mine takes a huge allen wrench to get it out. Anyone know the size?

Seems to me I read somewhere it is a 43mm. Sound right?

I think Brian Carlton is the one that posted that size so maybe ask him to be sure.

It's 46mm or 1 13/16. Clearance is usually a problem if you use a 3/4" drive socket. M/B makes a special short socket with 1/2" drive.

I pulled the prefilter and the main filter and both are clean, does this mean the the screen is clean or would the screen stop dirt coming forward and indeed could be dirty?

Yes, it definitely could still be dirty.

The order of filtration is: Filter Screen - Sand ; In-Line Pre-Filter-Grit ; Secondary Main Filter-Dust.;)

You won't find sand on the tank screen. It's large enough to have sufficient fuel to bypass any of the large objects in the tank. What you're looking for is a "sludge" that coats the entire screen and prevents any fuel from passing. There are some photos of such a screen........I think engatwork posted them at one time in the past. The sludge is typically a result of fungus growing in the tank at some point.

Or rust flakes... Same difference.

As a temporary measure, swap the feed and return lines underhood. Run through a couple tankfulls while using some adative containing naptha, such as Diesel 911 or Startron. This will backflush the strainer and liquify the offending grunge.

GREAT idea!!! Might want to do that every now and then anyhow....

well i got the tank screen out, no blockage but it has a black oil like residue i put my fingers in the tank and same thing black residue, also the 5 gallons of Biodisel that i removed is Black (in the container)not sure what colour it should be.
How much more work would be involved in removing the tank and having it cleaned, its already drained and i not likely to do this again. Also biodiesel so much nicer on you hands/driveway than diesel.:)
