Rear Toe/Something Bent in WY??

So after rebuilding an engine for my 85 300td this spring, I drove it around for a month or so, and then from Connecticut out to Wyoming - whereupon I noticed rediculous wear on the outside of the rear tires. So I whip out a tape measure and there appears to be around 13/16" of toe in at the rear - the right rear looks OK, whereas if you get down on the ground, the left rear wheel looks pretty cockeyed. I got under the car and looked but can't find any evidence of anything being bent - could the trailing arm be bent and there be no evidence of it? Also, has anyone put one of these cars into a curb and seen the arm bend? Will this necessarily bend the carrier that both trailing arms connect to? Anyone know of any junkyards anywhere near Dubois, WY? I don't have a huge selection of tools here, but I got the time... Thanks all!

Hmmm.......possibly a worn trailing arm bushing, where the trailing arm attaches to the subframe. You have to do some real prying to visibly verify this. If it turns out to be an outer one, distant from driveshaft, there is a good possibility it could be changed without a coil spring compressor. Use a section of all-thread and a stack of washers combined with 3/4" drive sockets to press the bushings out and back in.

also, yes, you can bend the arm by curbing it. my lovely #2 daughter slid on ice and bent my 83 240d's arm. also they sometimes rust out and collapse. this in my experience caused negative camber. the curbing caused positive camber.

What I remember of that part of WY, you are not near anything, of course near is relative term. I really like that area.

if you need an arm i would get it from kentucky or further soutn so you dont have to worry about the rust.

i would expect to pay 100 or so plus shipping
